Fetty Wap Was Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison For Drug Trafficking

Fetty Wap has been sentenced to six years in prison for drug trafficking. According to the New York Times, Fetty Wap, whose legal name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine last August and appeared before Judge Joanna Seybert in Central Islip, New York today for sentencing.

A prosecutor on the case, Breon Peace, wanted to sentence Fetty to a sentence of seven to nine years, writing, “Young people who admire the defendant and are considering selling drugs need to be sent a message that selling drugs is not a glamorous lifestyle and, if they participate in that trade, they will receive lengthy prison sentences.” However, his six-year sentence is just one year over the minimum for a conviction.

Fetty was initially arrested for drug offenses in October 2021 at Rolling Loud New York, and charged with distributing cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl across Long Island and New Jersey using US Postal Service trucks with secret compartments. Although he was released on bond, his bond was revoked last August after he threatened to kill someone during a FaceTime call while brandishing a firearm.

The “Trap Queen” rapper has had a rough go of it the last few years; in addition to multiple arrests for offenses such as drag racing and assault, his brother was killed in New jersey in 2020 and his four-year-old daughter died in 2021.

Ice Cube’s ‘No Vaseline’ Is The Best Diss Song Of All Time, According To Him, And ‘It’s Not Even Close’

Before your today’s rappers’ trigger fingers became Twitter fingers, emcees would air out their grievances in the booth. Tupac’s 1996 track “Hit’ Em Up” has reentered the music conversation, thanks to a hilarious viral reenactment video on TikTok. But rapper-turned-mogul Ice Cube wants it to be known that he recorded the best diss song of all time.

During an interview with the Earn Your Leisure podcast, the “Today Was A Good Day” rapper listed his top five hip-hop diss tracks. Atop this list was his 1991 song, “No Vaseline.”

“I mean, I would go with, you know, ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ is a good one,” he said. “‘Ether’ is dope. I would go with ‘The Bridge Is Over,’ and I don’t know, I think I gotta go with ‘Let’s Go,’” replied the entertainer paying homage to the tracks released by 2Pac, Nas, Boogie Down Productions, and Kool Moe Dee.

Cube’s track, fueled by his anger for his former N.W.A. groupmates, appeared on his sophomore album, Death Certificate.

The musician has spoken at length about the song, even telling The Breakfast Club in 2021, “[N.W.A] came with another couple of little disses. So I said, ‘Okay, man, I’m tired of this. I’m going to end this real quick. We gon’ set it all the way off.’ So that’s when I wrote ‘No Vaseline’ and recorded it. I put it on that ‘Cinderfella’ track, that Dana Dane track… we flipped it, and it became a smash.”

When reflecting on whether or not he thought the song was the cause behind the group’s final separation, he remarked, “And I didn’t know that at the time they were already fragmented, breaking up anyway. So, that just — I guess knocked them down like bowling pins.”

Quavo’s Forthcoming ‘Rocket Power’ Album Is A ‘Therapy’ Session Fueled By The ‘Strength’ Takeoff Passed Onto Him

Quavo has made it abundantly clear that Migos will not be reuniting musically. However, that isn’t stopping the rapper from moving forward with solo music. The “Honey Bun” rapper’s forthcoming sophomore album, Rocket Power, has a special guardian angel. Fueled by the strength his late nephew, Takeoff instilled in him, Quavo is ready to jump back into music full-time.

Speaking on the upcoming release, the musician took to Instagram to write, “This album is for the Rocket, our true fans, and also this is my therapy. This album is a true reflection of how I feel right now.”

He added, “Sometimes I’m good, sometimes I’m down, sometimes I’m disappointed, sometimes I fall apart, but then I always find my strength again. I know everything might not be alright right now, but the Rocket showed me a way to make it right! Rocket Power keeps me going. Rocket Power gives me fuel. ‘Rocket Power’ will help us all overcome whatever we’re going through.”

This isn’t the first the entertainer took to the booth to record new music in Takeoff’s name. At the top of the year, Quavo dropped “Without You,” which he went on to perform the track at the 2023 Grammys.

GloRilla Throws It Back To A Dirty South Classic On Her Spicy New Single, ‘Lick Or Sum’

Just over a year after breaking through with her viral hit single, “FNF (Let’s Go),” GloRilla has another summer hit on her hands. On her latest single, “Lick Or Sum,” the new Memphis rap princess channels her fellow Memphis natives Three 6 Mafia over a trippy beat sampling the group’s hit track, “Slob On My Knob.”

On the track, Glo takes charge in the sex game, laying down the laws and delivering scandalous commands.

“Lookin’ like a lick or sum’ / Come and take a lick or sum’ / P*ssy bussin’ like a blick or sum’ / Come here, now let me get some d*ck or sum’,” she raps on the song’s chorus, which contains probably the most printable lyrics of the song.

In the song’s video, she is seen twerking with her girls, dancing in the streets and on the hoods of cars, and also in a salon, where she passes on words of wisdom to other women. Fellow rappers Sexyy Red and Yung Miami make cameos in the video.

Last year proved to be big for Glo, with her viral hits “FNF (Let’s Go)” and the equally catchy “Tomorrow 2.” With “Lick Or Sum,” she’s sure to kill the game with another summer banger.

Janelle Monáe Goes All In On Boobs With The (Definitely NSFW) Vinyl And CD Editions Of Her Upcoming Album, ‘The Age Of Pleasure’

Much has been made about Janelle Monáe’s upcoming album, The Age Of Pleasure, specifically as it relates to her often-NSFW rollout of the project. Now, they’re back with more, via the newly revealed CD and vinyl editions of the album that continue to put breasts on display.

In a post shared on Twitter this afternoon (May 23), Monáe posted photos of the vinyl edition. On the front is alternate art, a warm-colored portrait of Monáe. When the packaging is opened up, revealed is a painting of breasts (presumably Monáe’s, given how eager she’s been to show them off lately). Monáe’s tweet with photos of the vinyl packaging can be found here.

Meanwhile, the CD edition of the album also shows off some skin. The cover art is the same underwater shot as the original cover, but the art on the CD features a different photo from that same shoot, in which Monáe is also topless in a pool.

As Monáe recently put it, “I’m much happier when my titties are out and I can run around free.”

The various editions of the album can be perused and purchased here.

The Age Of Pleasure is out 6/9 via Wondaland Arts Society/Atlantic Records. Find more information here.

Janelle Monáe is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Early Reviews Of HBO’s ‘The Idol’ Have More ‘Softcore Porn’ Comparisons Than They Do Praise For The Show

Yesterday (May 22), HBO’s upcoming series The Idol premiered at Cannes. Attendees got to view the first two of the upcoming six episodes of the Sam Levinson and The Weeknd-helmed series, which is set to premiere next month.

While anticipation is high for the series — which is said to tell the story of a pop star named Jocelyn (Lily Rose Depp) who falls in love with a cult leader named Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye) — the show appears to have been panned by critics. We’ll spare some of the more graphic details, but we’ve included portions of some of the reviews below.

Rolling Stone, who published an exposé about the show’s allegedly harsh production conditions, said that The Idol was even more scandalous than they imagined.

“The double-dose the festival screened felt nasty, brutish, much longer than it is, and way, way worse than you’d have anticipated,” read the review.

Variety described The Idol as a “sordid male fantasy” and said the show’s script “seems calculated to fool audiences into thinking they’re observing how Hollywood operates, when so much of it amounts to tawdry clichés lifted from Sidney Sheldon novels and softcore porn.”

The Hollywood Reporter called The Idol “an HBO series that’s more regressive than transgressive.”

Following the Cannes screening, the series has debuted with a 20 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Idol premieres on 6/4 on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.

Fat Joe, Ludacris, Nas, Metro Boomin And More Artists Congratulated Carmelo Anthony On His NBA Retirement

Carmelo Anthony formally announced his retirement from the NBA after beginning his career as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft for the Denver Nuggets — the same draft that saw LeBron James go No. 1.

Melo’s impact was celebrated throughout the music world upon his announcement. Melo’s comments section was predictably full of love from the likes of Juicy J (“Congrats mane!”), Lloyd Banks (“Thanks for everything you’ve done for basketball,” and Rapsody (five rose emojis).

“We’ll done [sic] brother we’ll done [sic] @carmeloanthony Congratulations you deserve all the glory,” Fat Joe wrote to caption an Instagram photo of Anthony during his New York Knicks years.

Nas narrated and reposted an Instagram reel made alongside Jumpman — Fabolous reposted the same reel to his Instagram Story alongside, “Congrats on a hell of a career” — and Metro Boomin simply posted a throwback photo of Nuggets-era Melo posting up the late Kobe Bryant:

King James might be joining Anthony in retirement sooner than previously assumed after the Los Angeles Lakers were swept out of the 2023 NBA Playoffs by the Nuggets last night, May 22. But for now, it’s about Melo, who ironically last appeared on an NBA court as a Laker during the 2021-22 season.

“I remember the days when I had nothin’ — just a ball on the court and a dream of something more — but basketball was my outlet,” the 10-time All-Star and future Hall Of Famer said in a video posted to Instagram on May 22. “My purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I represented the pride, and the fans that supported me along the way. I am forever grateful for those people and places because they made me Carmelo Anthony.”

He continued, “But now the time has come for me to say goodbye. To the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride. With this bittersweet goodbye to the NBA, I’m excited about what the future holds for me.”

Anthony also explained that he believes his legacy is “more than basketball” and will live on through his son. The video was soundtracked by “All That I Got Is You” by Ghostface Killah featuring Mary J. Blige.

Chelsea Handler Hinted At 50 Cent’s… Um… Size During A Stand-Up Bit About Anal Sex, And 50 Loves It

In case you’ve forgotten, or haven’t seen any of Chelsea Handler’s stand-up routines, Handler and 50 Cent dated briefly about a decade ago. She’s alluded to this relationship in her routines, her books, and in various interviews over the years, and has nothing but love for the “In Da Club” rapper. But still, their longstanding friendship isn’t going to keep her from getting her jokes off.

In a recent stand-up routine, Handler performed a bit about anal sex. During the bit, she noted that while the idea of anal sex might be daunting, it gets easier when you have a partner of the ideal — um — size.

“It’s a big pill to swallow in the beginning, but when you warm up to the idea, and you pick the right candidate, right?” Handler said of anal sex. “Small or medium, you know, you’re not going to, like, do that with 50 Cent.”

50 caught wind of the bit and shared a clip of it to his personal Instagram.

“Yo she is so crazy [laughing emojis],” said 50 in the post’s caption. He continued, calling Handler “hand[s] down the funniest.”

Meanwhile, 50 is currently gearing up for his Final Lap Tour, which will see him commemorating the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Get Rich Or Die Trying. The tour will kick off in July in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Chlöe Showed Off Her Body In A Joyous Vacation Video And Fans Are Showering Her With Appreciation

Even with fans making all kinds of out-of-pocket comments about her, Chlöe hasn’t been shy about showing off her body since starting her solo career with the unapologetic video for “Have Mercy.” Since then, she’s met every critical comment with another carefree moment reinforcing her self-love — and doubled down on displaying her assets, whether those commenters like it or not.

So it makes sense that after she had a booming busy season that included her controversial appearance in Swarm, the release of her first-ever solo album, and the tour for that album, she’s taking a vacation. She shared a compilation video from her time in paradise (it looks a lot like Hawaii) on social media, and once again bared nearly all with a series of skimpy bikinis that showed off her curves as she surfed, lounged, and soaked up the sun during her island getaway.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The difference is, it appears to be sinking in that she’s not going to let the trolls shake her confidence, so instead, the majority of the comments are praising her, congratulating her on taking some time for herself, and generally loving the look she gave behind the curtain of her rest and relaxation time.

Headliner Lil Wayne Got To The Metro Metro Festival In Montreal So Late, He Only Performed For 15 Minutes

Frank Ocean isn’t the only headliner to get cut off by curfew lately. Lil Wayne recently disappointed fans in Montreal by only performing a 15-minute headlining set at the Metro Metro Festival. According to XXL, Wayne was set to headline the festival on May 19 with an hour-long set from 10-11, but per a statement issued by the festival’s organizers on Instagram, he didn’t arrive to festival grounds until 10:45.

Performers getting cut off by curfew is becoming something of a recurring theme in the music world. Frank Ocean’s headlining performance at Coachella was derailed by an injury on the first weekend that forced organizers to scramble to melt a portable ice rink that was to be used in the performance, pushing back his set for over half an hour. Then, the set was cut short by curfew, leaving fans disappointed and disgruntled as they left the festival grounds. Frank was subsequently removed from the second weekend with Blink-182 upgraded to headliner status.

Lil Wayne recently wrapped up his Welcome To Tha Carter Tour, during which he was joined onstage by surprise guests like Chance The Rapper and Wayne’s longtime protege Drake. Later this year, Wayne is said to be releasing ColleGrove 2 with 2 Chainz, so stay tuned for a release date.
