Per press release, Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan will be utilized for tickets to the North American leg. Registration for the Verified Fan presale has begun here and will run through this Sunday, May 7, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The Jury Has Ruled In Ed Sheeran’s Favor In The Marvin Gaye Plagiarism Lawsuit Trial

In recent days, Ed Sheeran has had a lot going on. One of the more annoying is surely the lawsuit he’s been facing from the heirs of Ed Townsend, a co-writer of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” In the suit, it is alleged that Sheeran stole elements of the song and used them in his own hit single, 2014’s “Thinking Out Loud.” Now, the trial has concluded and the jury has reached a ruling, The Associated Press reports: He didn’t do it.

Today (May 4), the New York jury shared their conclusion about if “Sheeran proved he didn’t infringe upon the copyright” and they took his side. When the verdict was delivered and the two-week trial came to a close, Sheeran “briefly put his hands over his face in relief before standing and hugging his lawyer.”

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Sheeran said, “The thing with these cases, it’s not usually songwriters that are suing songwriters. I feel like in the songwriting community, everyone sort of knows that there’s four chords primarily that are used and there’s eight notes. And we work with what we’ve got, with doing that.”

Sheeran was so frustrated by the lawsuit that he recently said of potentially being found guilty, “If that happens, I’m done, I’m stopping. I find it really insulting to devote my whole life to being a performer and a songwriter and have someone diminish it.”

Timbaland Never Got To Work With The Notorious BIG So He Used AI To ‘Collaborate’ With Him Instead

Over the past few years, rap fans have unfortunately gotten plenty of calls to debate the ethics of posthumously releasing an artist’s works — especially when it comes to collaborations that the artist may not have approved. With the advent of AI technologies that reproduce artists’ voices and likenesses, that debate has heated up a lot lately.

The latest figure in hip-hop to join the debate is Timbaland, who used AI to “collaborate” with The Notorious B.I.G. — someone he never got the chance to work with in real life before Biggie died. He shared part of the song, in which Big’s voice shouts out artists he never lived to see such as Nipsey Hussle and Young Dolph, on Instagram, saying:

We know that it’s a lot of talk about AI and we know how the feelings of violating certain things. But let me tell you something: I got a solution, I’m working on it. It’s gon’ be beneficial to everybody. I gotta share something I’ve been working on because I always wanted to do this and I never got a chance to. I always wanted to work with Big and I never got a chance to.

Fans on social media have received the “collaboration” with some trepidation — people who pay for Twitter Blue aside — pointing out that although the machine-learning algorithm can reproduce Christopher Wallace’s voice, Tim’s still just talking to a computer simulacrum.

All The Best New R&B From This Week That You Need To Hear

Sometimes the best new R&B can be hard to find, but there are plenty of great rhythm-and-blues tunes to get into if you have the time to sift through the hundreds of newly released songs every week. So that R&B heads can focus on listening to what they really love in its true form, we’ll be offering a digest of the best new R&B songs that fans of the genre should hear every Friday.

Since the last update of this weekly R&B and Afrobeats column, we’ve received plenty of music and news from the genre’s artists.

After many calls, tweets, posts, and more, Miguel finally returned to the R&B world with his sultry new single “Give It To Me” while Halle Bailey delivered a shimmering rendition of The Little Mermaid “Part Of Your World.” Usher revealed that his absolutely down to perform at a Super Bowl Halftime Show and The Weeknd had a little back and forth with fans who had some complaints about Dawn FM. Elsewhere, SZA earned her first No. 1 album on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to “Kill Bill,” Chlöe performed songs from Ungodly Hour with Halle Bailey during her tour, and 6lack and Davido announced their Since I Have A Lover and Timeless tours, respectively.

Here are some more releases on the new music front that you should check out:

Rema — Rave & Roses Ultra

More than a year after he dropped his Rave & Roses debut, an album that place him in a new tier within afrobeats and music overall, Rema is back with its deluxe album. Rave & Roses Ultra checks in with four additional entries, one of them being “Holiday” which was released prior to the project. The remaining records showcase Rema’s versatility, but keep an eye on “Charm” which could become Rema’s next hit ahead of the summer.

Baby Rose — Through And Through

Let’s give a warm welcome to Baby Rose who is back with her first album since 2020’s To Myself. Her latest release, Through And Through, arrives with 12 songs and features from Smino and Georgia Anne Muldrow for a captivating body of work that Rose describes as “a reminder that everything, good and bad, is necessary, and every iteration of me deserves peace.”

DaniLeigh — “Tasty”

With producer BongoByTheWay by her side, DaniLeigh checks in with quite the bop. On “Tasty,” DaniLeigh stops the show to flaunt the qualities of herself that she and the men around her find irresistible. Their moments together leave men with a taste in their mouths that they’ll never forget, and that alone, is a badge of honor for the singer.

Amaria — All For You

Nearly two years after her debut project Bittersweet, Los Angeles’ own Amaria is back with her second body of work All Of You. Throughout the project’s seven songs, Amaria’s soft vocals tantalize the ears with a warmness that makes All Of You a heavenly listen. You can also relish in guest appearances from some extremely talented R&B acts in Destin Conrad, Amber Navran, and Phabo.

Aáyanna — “Won’t Cry”

This year has been a productive one for Avant Garden signee Aáyanna. The singer kicked things off with “Can’t You Take It” and followed that up with “Kill For Me,” and now she’s back with “Won’t Cry.” The gentle and emotive record finds Aáyanna wondering if the love was real in a relationship that is now over. Despite her questions and upset feelings, Aáyanna refuses to let the tears to fall.

Amir Obé — After

It’s been six years since we received a full-length record from Toronto singer Amir Obé, but good things come to those who wait and he’s back with After. The 13-track record tackles all corners of the alternative R&B landscape through gloomy records that accentuate the slip-ups and quarrels in love that Obé sings about with help from PARTYNEXTDOOR and Naomi Wild on the album.

Stonebwoy — 5th Dimension

When it’s all said and done, Ghanaian singer Stonebwoy will have one of the best afrobeats albums of 2023 with 5th Dimension. Its 17 songs are everything that we’ve recently come to love and appreciate within the genre: it’s vibrant, confident, and authentic. Stonebwoy masters the moments of love just as well as he does those of faith on 5th Dimension. Appearances from Stormzy, Jaz Karis, Davido, Mereba, and more also add to the sharp quality of the project.

Victony — “Soweto (Remix)” Feat. Omah Lay & Tempoe

Earlier this year, Nigerian singer Victony released a remix of his hit record “Soweto” with Don Toliver and Rema. Even before the song’s release, there was a lot of talk about who would appear on it as Omah Lay shared his own take on the record. Now, fans are able to relish in his version through a second remix of the track with more possibly on the way.

KiDi — “I Lied”

Ghanaian singer KiDi could have another project on the way in what would be a productive 12-month stretch for the singer. After a few singles following his 4 Play EP, KiDi is back with “I Lied.” The record is an honest account of his state of mind as he confesses to lying about his well-being in order to keep those closest to him from worrying about him.

Young Jonn — “Aquafina”

Fresh off a Home Session with Apple Music, afrobeats singer Young Jonn checks back in with “Aquafina.” It’s a solid follow-up to “Stamina” with Tiwa Savage and Ayra Starr as well as “Currency” with Olamide. Young Jonn uses “Aquafina” to detail the possibility of changes in love as time goes on. Through it all, Young Jonn simply wants honesty so that hurt feelings can be avoided as much as possible.

CD Rose — “God Speed”

Boston singer CD Rose returns with “God Speed,” her second single of the year. It’s an angelic record that glides with passion and honesty as CD Rose lets her fears and questions go with the belief that a higher power will take care of them. “Sometimes you just have to trust in something higher, something bigger than yourself,” she said in an Instagram post, adding, “and whatever that may be for you, has the power to show you bits and pieces of who you are.”

Post Malone Is The Latest Star To Be Honored With The Songwriters Hall Of Fame’s Hal David Starlight Award

Post Malone is about to become the latest star to be honored with the Songwriters Hall Of Fame’s Hal David Starlight Award, according to Variety. The award honors “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs.”

Past winners of the award have included Lil Nas X, who received the award last year and gave a cheeky speech, Drake, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Alicia Keys, and John Mayer. The Hal David Starlight Award is named after the former Songwriters Hall Of Fame chairman and was created in 2004 inspired by his support of young songwriters.

Of this year’s honoree current SHOF chairman Nile Rodgers said, “Over the last few years I have had the pleasure of watching Posty become one of the biggest artists in the world and he’s done it by writing phenomenal songs. Way before Post Malone was a superstar, he was a great songwriter, and this is his first step into the Songwriters Hall of Fame!”

Meanwhile, this year’s class of Hall Of Fame inductees includes Glen Ballard, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Lynne, Liz Rose, Sade, Snoop Dogg, and Teddy Riley. The Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner is scheduled for June 15 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.

Lil Baby’s Love Of Anime Became More Official With His Own ‘Shonen Baby’ Manga, In Partnership With Axe

Lil Baby dropped the video for “Go Hard” last week. In the track, Baby raps, “Need a Nike deal how I’m runnin’ sh*t,” but he should be perfectly happy with his ongoing Axe partnership.

Earlier this week, Axe and Baby announced they have collaborated on a forthcoming manga, Shonen Baby, due out July 11.

According to ComicBook, the collaboration is meant to commemorate Axe’s “new Fine Fragrance Collection at Walmart.” Fans must purchase an Axe product from the collection at Walmart to gain access to the manga, which will officially be available for download “during an exclusive invite-only virtual launch event” this summer.

The report continues, “Produced by Passion Pictures with artist Future Power Station and Lil Baby in tow, Shonen Baby is teased as a manga that taps into the aspects of Shonen action manga releases. Shonen Baby sees Lil Baby and AXE ’embark on a unique journey to save Atlanta from the evil Culture Vultures out to drain the city of its juice, while unlocking their inner G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time).’ Lil Baby will be tapping into special powers for the manga as well.”

If anybody is qualified to save Atlanta, it’s Baby, who already has his own day recognized by the city.

Axe’s official website has initiated a countdown clock to the Shonen Baby release and laid out all the necessary steps: purchase any qualifying Axe product via Walmart before May 31, upload proof of receipt by June 15, and voila, “unlock the Ll Baby experience.”

Axe has served as a vessel for Baby to express his love for anime before. Last September, as relayed by Revolt, Axe and Baby generated “three animated digital episodes” to “give people an inside look into some of [Lil Baby’s] most distinct memories associated with Axe scents.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Baby said in a statement at the time, “I’ve always been a big fan of anime, so having Axe turn some of my intimate memories and thoughts into an animated mini-series is kind of surreal.”

Ashanti And Nelly Are Reportedly ‘Very Happy’ Together Again Amid Romance Rumors

Nelly’s Hot In Herre Festival isn’t until next month, but there’s (allegedly) plenty of heat between him and his former-girlfriend-who-might-be-his-current-girlfriend, Ashanti.

Nelly and Ashanti have been stoking reconciliation rumors since December when they performed their 2008 collaborative track “Body On Me” during a holiday festival in Atlanta. Last month, they performed it again in Las Vegas before attending the Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Ryan Garcia fight together.

And on Wednesday, May 3, Entertainment Tonight reported that their vibe isn’t performative at all.

“Nelly and Ashanti are back together, and both of them are very happy,” an unnamed source told ET.

The outlet cited a separate unnamed source as relaying, “Nelly and Ashanti are really enjoying their time together.”

Bow Wow will be pleased to hear this, as he advocated for Nelly to “stop playing and marry this woman” when footage of Ashanti and Nelly arriving to the Vegas fight together began circulating online in late April.

In December, Ashanti visited Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and was asked to address online commentary that she and Nelly were rekindling their early-2000s romance.

“I mean, my reaction was, wow,” she said. “It was a lot of comments and a lot of people wanting that. What I will say is we’re in a better place. […] We’re cool now. We had some conversations, so it’s cool.”

Nelly also addressed the speculation in February.

“Time does wonders for a lot of different things,” he told Entertainment Tonight while attending the 2023 Grammys. “And time is one those things that allows you time to reflect on what’s what, and you get a chance to see things in a different light and see your faults. I think we both did that, and it’s cool that we just friends.”

Ashanti and Nelly initially met in 2003 and dated until splitting around 2013, as chronicled by Complex.

It Looks Like A K-Pop Favorite Will Voice Halle Bailey’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Role In The Korean Dub

Much has been made about the upcoming The Little Mermaid remake (set for May 26) and Halle Bailey’s leading role in it. Not all fans around the world will get to experience her complete performance, though. Disney is, of course, a global brand, so The Little Mermaid will be available on non-English territories. Various dubbed versions of the movie will be presented around the world, and for the South Korean version, it looks like they got Danielle, of K-pop group NewJeans, to voice Bailey’s role.

As Billboard reports, Disney Korea shared a teaser poster on May 1, which teased who would be voicing Ariel with a blank outlined figure. Fans quickly figured out, though, that the figure was indeed Danielle, even finding the exact photo used for the silhouette.

Furthermore, a snippet of Danielle singing the classic Little Mermaid song “Part Of Your World” in Korean also surfaced.

Danielle, NewJeans, Disney, or anybody else involved have officially announced/confirmed Danielle’s role as of yet.

Elsewhere, it’s been a strong 2023 for NewJeans so far. In January, they landed their first song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A couple months later, the group’s Hanni got to visit a Trader Joe’s store for the first time and she was beyond excited about it.

Jamie Foxx’s ‘Beat Shazam’ Will Reportedly Replace Him With As Host While He Remains Hospitalized For A Mystery Condition

Jamie Foxx remains in the hospital after suffering some sort of medical emergency last month while in Atlanta for his latest flick Back In Action. Foxx’s daughter Corinne confirmed that the actor was “on his way to recovery,” in an Instagram post on April 12th.

Due to his condition, Foxx will be replaced on Beat Shazam, the music gameshow which he hosts alongside Corinne. Corinne is also reportedly not returning for the new season, which begins filming this week, according to TMZ, in order to stay with her father in Atlanta.

Kelly Osbourne seemingly confirmed via Instagram that she would step in for Corinne as the show’s DJ. In a now-deleted Instagram story (via Page Six), Osbourne was seen on set, where an emcee was heard introducing Nick Cannon, who is expected to replace his pal Foxx, though no official announcement has been made yet.

Cannon recently gave a brief update to Entertainment Tonight, saying that Foxx’s condition had been improving. “Man, I’m praying. You see, I posted on Instagram. I literally have been saying prayers out loud. Words of affirmation for my big brother,” Cannon told ET, adding, “I know he’s doing so much better because I’m actually about to do something special for him, and doing him a favor.”

It seems like Cannon’s mystery favor involves him hosting the competition show while Foxx is in recovery. He sure does love hosting! In addition to excessive procreation.
