Cardi B Clearly Loved A Gospel Version Of One Of Her Hits From Chlöe’s New Movie ‘Praise This’

As Chlöe’s debut solo album In Pieces finds its way onto the Billboard charts, the rising star’s new movie Praise This is now streaming on Peacock. The movie, which follows a gospel praise team as they enter a national competition, features a number of gospel covers of pop and R&B hits, including a cleaned-up version of Cardi B’s 2018 hit “Money” by contemporary Christian singer Koryn Hawthorne.

Where Cardi’s original version celebrates getting “Money,” Hawthorne adds religious messaging but keeps the spirited flow that took the original all the way to No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Hawthorne celebrated the film’s release with a tweet capturing Cardi’s reaction to hearing the remix in the studio. In the video, Cardi can be seen beaming from ear to ear as she throws her hands and sings along to the revamped lyrics.

Praise This is getting a more uniformly positive reception from fans than In Pieces did; it’s likely that the gospel-centric film resonates more strongly with the tastes of many of Chlöe’s earliest supporters. (Chlöe made her film debut in her mentor Beyoncé’s similarly gospel-inspired film Fighting Temptations, and that first impression has clearly stuck with fans who aren’t feeling the young singer’s shift to a more mainstream sound.)

Chlöe addressed that criticism recently on her hometown radio, positing that her loudest critics actually weren’t around for her and her sister Halle’s humble beginnings. The truth is, many artists often face harsh criticisms as they grow creatively, and if anything, it’s a sign that people are truly invested. That’s a good sign for Chlöe’s burgeoning career, as it means no matter what direction she decides to pursue, she’s at least guaranteed a captive audience.

Praise This is out now on Peacock. In Pieces is also out now via Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. Find more information here.

Chlöe’s ‘In Pieces’ Debuts On The ‘Billboard’ 200, Marking A First For Her As A Solo Artist

Chlöe released In Pieces, her debut solo album on March 31 after building anticipation with singles such as “Pray It Away” or “How Does It Feel” featuring Chris Brown.

After the album’s arrival, fans were treated to the video for “Cheatback” featuring Future. They’re also still waiting on an official video for “Told Ya” featuring Missy Elliott.

All of that culminated in In Pieces debuting at No. 119 on the Billboard 200 albums chart dated April 15. As noted by Chart Data, it marks Chlöe’s first time charting on the Billboard 200 as a solo artist.

Chloe X Halle peaked at No. 16 and No. 139 for Ungodly Hour and The Kids Are Alright, respectively.

Chlöe referenced her musical beginnings with her sister, Halle Bailey, while addressing the criticism she has endured in the wake of In Pieces.

“The thing is, the same people who say that weren’t fans of Halle and [me] when we had our Ungodly Hour album out, The Kids Are Alright, so, it’s a bunch of people who are just putting in their two cents now just to really say things,” she said during an appearance on Atlanta’s Majic 107.5 radio station. “Because Sis and I, we’ve been underground for a minute, and the same people who talk, they weren’t around then or giving us our props then. It’s like, now they want to talk trash for some reason.”

Lil Nas X Celebrated His Birthday With A Racy, ‘Playboy’-Inspired Photoshoot

Lil Nas X turned 24 over the weekend (on Sunday, April 9), and to celebrate, he set up a racy, Playboy-inspired photoshoot that saw him embracing his inner femme and reproducing the magazine’s January 1986 Cover Girls cover. The rest of the photos Nas posted to Instagram see him perusing the pages of his custom issue with a mischievous grin.

Nas, decked out in bunny ears — which served a double purpose, considering Sunday was also Easter — stockings, and heels, lounges on a silk sheet surrounded by old Playboy magazines. A header reads Batty Boy, which is a pejorative term for gay men in Jamaican Patois; leave it to Nas to reclaim a slur in a way guaranteed to set off those most likely to use it.

The “Industry Baby” rapper has been having a lot off fun challenging critics of his queer identity lately. In March, he clapped back at a troll who accused him of only pretending to be gay for engagement, while earlier this month, he joked that he would indeed be reverting to heterosexuality after finding out Saweetie called him her celebrity crush.

Still, it’s clear from his birthday photos he isn’t really switching up for anyone and remains committed to living out loud, regardless of what the haters have to say.

Swae Lee Says He Would Choose Trump Over Biden In The 2024 Election: ‘He Freed Kodak, He Freed Wayne, He Tapped In’

Former President Donald Trump may not have the stamp of approval from Tupac’s family, but he did earn one from Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee. During an interview on The Bootleg Kev Podcast about Slim Jxmmi’s move to Miami, Florida, the conversation took a turn into the political.

Lee said the main reason he moved to Miami and eventually convinced Jxmmi to follow him was the tax benefits. “It’s tax-free, so, you’re making a lot of money, but you’re giving half of your money to Uncle Sam,” said Lee before diving into his disdain for Biden’s allocation of American tax dollars.

“You’re giving half of your money away to Joe Biden for him to send that sh*t over to another country,” declared Lee, referring to American financial aid to Ukraine. “He got [Ukraine straight before he got his own country straight. I don’t really agree with that.”

When the host asked if he would vote for Trump in 2024, Lee answered, “If I had to choose between the A and the B, I’d definitely go with Trump over Biden for sure.”

As the camera panned to Slim Jxmmi to document his answer, he said, “I choose not to speak on politics.”

To which the host responds, “You’re a smart man.”

Lee went on to add that taxes weren’t the only thing that played a part in his decision. “He freed Kodak [Black]. He freed Wayne. He tapped in.” Lee’s comments referred to Trump’s providing rappers Kodak Black and Lil Wayne with presidential pardons near the end of his term.

Black took to Twitter to after his release, writing, “I want to thank President Donald Trump for his commitment to justice reform and shortening my sentence.”

SZA might want to put a hit out on her ex, but there’s one relationship the singer still cherishes: the one with her fans. After five long years since the release of her debut studio album, the singer poured her all into her follow-up, SOS. The “Ghost In The Machine” singer’s creative efforts paid off handsomely both on the charts and via ticket sales.

According to Billboard, SZA’s 18-date SOS North American tour grossed $34.5 million, which equated to approximately 238,000 tickets sold. The tour — which featured a special guest, “3 Boys” singer Omar Apollo — kicked off in February and ran until late March. The tour also featured surprise appearances by Cardi B, Summer Walker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lizzo.

The report outlines the tour brought out in around $1.9 million and 12,812 tickets each show. As for the specifics on each arena, Billboard revealed that despite having the second-highest ticket price at $174.69, the SoCal arena sold 8,700 tickets. For contrast, SZA’s shows in New York at Madison Square Garden and Inglewood, California’s Kia Forum were the two highest grossing as well as highest attended.

The tour’s two shows at MSG on March 4 and 5 grossed $4.7 million, with 27,000 tickets sold. Meanwhile, SZA’s March 22 and 23 shows at the Kia Forum, racked in $3.9 million for 25,000 tickets sold.

Drake’s ‘Search & Rescue’ Debuts At No. 1 On Spotify’s US Music Charts, With Millions Of Streams Upon Its Release

Drake‘s latest single, “Search & Rescue,” is dominating the streaming charts, especially on Spotify. On the track, which was co-produced by longtime collaborator Noah “40” Shebib and Lil Yachty, the certified lover boys shows that he can still make a splash independently. That impact is showing up on the charts.

According to Pop Crave, “Search & Rescue” has debuted at No. 1 on US Spotify. The song reportedly earned over 2.43 million streams. The platform also revealed that the song also found a home on the streaming giant’s global chart opening up at the No. 4 spot with 4.63 million plays.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The songs rounding out the top five spots are “Last Night” by Morgan Wallen at No. 2, “Kill Bill” by SZA at No. 3, “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” by PinkPantheress featuring Ice Spice at No. 4, and “Ella Baila Sola” by Eslabon Armado featuring Peso Pluma.

When “Search & Rescue” was released, fans called out the rapper for stepping back into his ‘Sassy Drake’ persona, as the track features samples of his longtime foe Ye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian. In the clip, Kardashian talks about her and Kanye West’s divorce.

Although Drake’s father insists that “it’s just a song” and not a direct diss to the Yeezy designer, fans find that hard to believe.

Noname Announced Her New Album, The First Since 2018, And It Is Slated To Arrive Sooner Than You Think

Apparently 2023 is the year of musical returns. First, SZA made her big comeback. For weeks Cardi B has spoken publicly about working on her sophomore album. Now Noname is throwing her hat into the ring. All three ladies waited five years before dropping or, in some cases, beginning to work on a full-length follow-up.

Although Noname has released several songs recently, including “Rainforest” and “Song 33” (a response track to J. Cole’s subtle jabs), fans of the rapper have been looking forward to the day when she’d drop an entire project after changing her mind regarding retiring from music.

Well, now they’re in luck. In a post uploaded to Instagram, the musician wrote, “My new album is called Sundial. It will be released in July 2023.” She added, “Thank you for everything.”

Noname’s last album, Room 25, was released in 2018. In between single drops, she’s focused her energy on her community activism work, including Noname’s Book Club, which focuses on “uplifting people of color voices” by highlighting literary works centering their stories. The literary and social awareness movement has played a vital part in the conversations about educational resources available in underfunded areas. That said, Noname is no stranger to using her music to address political and social issues. It’s safe to assume that her forthcoming album will do the same.

Fans of Noname were overjoyed after hearing the news. See a few of their reactions below.

Before deactivating her Twitter, after it was revealed that she would be returning to Coachella, Noname wrote, “Now if Coachella doesn’t convince y’all I’m bout to drop an album, I don’t know what will.” It looks like she’s keeping her word.

Molly Shannon Dusted Off Sally O’Malley So She Could Become The Jonas Brothers’ New Choreographer On ‘SNL’

When SNL alumni return for hosting duties, they tend to dust off some old favorites. Molly Shannon did plenty of that on Saturday. The Emmy-winning performer — who can be seen in the Florence Pugh drama A Good Person and just published the memoir Hello, Molly! — threw in a nod to Mary Katherine Gallagher, her uptight Catholic school girl who just wants to dance, in her opening monologue. Later she resurrected her bad stand-up Jeannie Darcy. But perhaps the biggest one was when she broke out another dancing character, Sally O’Malley.

Debuted in 1999, Sally is a salty, spry, and perpetually 50-year-old energy bomb, clad in a red jump-suit with a towering bouffant ‘do. She’s a symbol of eternal youth in an ever-aging body. The musical guest that night were the Jonas Brothers, who were game to team up with Shannon for the episode’s big promo, and again when Sally O’Malley made her triumphant return.

The sketch finds Sally being recruited by the trio to be their new choreographer. Their exiting choreographers are nonplussed about it, doubting that the Jonases would want an older vibe. But they’re wrong: Kevin, Joe, and Nick are already wearing their own red jump-suits and are ready to do some high kicks.

You can watch the sketch in the video above.

Doja Cat Is Teasing ‘No More Pop’ And Seemingly Shared New Song Titles From Her Upcoming Album

At long last, it looks like we may finally be getting new Doja Cat music — that is, if she’s not trolling us this time.

Today (April 8), she took to Twitter and seemingly teased her impending new era. In one tweet is a picture, showing a screenshot of audio files, which appear to be rough drafts of upcoming songs. Some of the song titles include “Wet Vagina,” “Balut,” and “Agora Hills.”

In a follow-up tweet, it looks like she’s hinting at the new direction in which she’s moving.

“no more pop,” she said.

In the past, Doja has said that her fourth studio album would predominantly consist of rap music. She’s also said it would take inspiration from “’90s German rave” culture. She’s also expressed interest in doing an R&B album.

While we aren’t sure what to expect from Doja’s fourth album, it does seem as though she is, in fact, still planning to lead into her rap side.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

In a follow-up tweet, she explained, “i also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny. I know they are. I wasnt trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I’m getting tired of hearing yall say that i can’t so I will.”
