The first episode has only been out for a few hours, but it looks like Donald Glover’s new show Swarm is already the internet’s favorite show to dissect, discuss, and debate. He might just have another hit on his hands. Fans have been enamored with the acting of the show’s stars like Billie Eilish, flustered by co-star Chlöe’s first-ever sex scene, and grooving to the psychedelic soundtrack, which features new Childish Gambino tracks like “Sticky.”

Another moment that has viewers gagging is a joke in the show in which Paris Jackson compares herself to Halsey. During a conversation between Jackson’s character Hailey and the show’s protagonist, Dre, portrayed by Dominique Fishback, Hailey mentions that she had to “run away” from a relationship because her partner didn’t like that she was Black. Of course, we’ve all seen Paris Jackson (who’s had to address this topic in the past in real life), and Dre is understandably a little thrown by this assertion.

“You’re Black?” she asks incredulously.

“Yeah,” Hailey replies. “My dad’s half.”

“Half what? Black?”

“Yeah,” Hailey says, winding up for the pitch. “That’s why my stage name’s Halsey. You do know who Halsey is, right?” Here’s the clip:

I’ll give you a minute to process Halsey being Black, in case that’s a revelation for you (Halsey’s father is Black, while her mom’s Italian). Honestly, it’s a pretty good joke, playing on a shared attribute between Halsey and Paris, as well as a discussion that both have had to have probably more times than they want to remember.

Meanwhile, it’s clear that Swarm is already becoming the next Euphoria, which may owe to its satirical premise of an out-of-control, serial-killing stan of a famous pop star. After it premiered at midnight last night (March 17), Swarm has taken over the internet. The new Amazon Prime Video series from Donald Glover and Janine Nabers is notable for a number of reasons, including a recently revealed appearance from Billie Eilish. She’s not the only music star in the show, as Chlöe also has a role, and there’s one scene in particular that is making waves online: the sex scene.

We won’t share it here (it’s easy enough to find, though, either via clips on Twitter or in the actual show), but for about 30 seconds in the first episode’s opening minutes, Chlöe and Damson Idris’ characters (Marissa Jackson and Khalid) have sex with each other as they talk dirty and make sexual noises. Partway through, Khalid notices Dominique Fishback’s character (Andrea “Dre” Greene) watching them from the doorway, but he continues and even flashes her a smile before Dre walks away.

Naturally, the explicit scene has drawn so many reactions on Twitter.

In a recent Deadline interview, Chlöe spoke about filming the scene, saying, “I remember when I first read the script, I was like, ‘Oh, this is insane, this is incredible,’ and I cried, and then I realized, ‘You gotta do that sex scene, girl.’ And as open and liberal as I am with my body, I was very scared because I haven’t had that many partners, I’m not like that… that sexual and open. […] Damson made it really comfortable. You know, there were limited people on set, it was a closed set. We were laughing in between. We literally had a bouncy ball in between us. […] I have to give a lot of kudos to him as a man for making me as a woman feel comfortable being literally raw and naked.”

The demand for Drake and 21 Savage’s It’s All A Blur Tour tickets is so high, they’ve added a slew of extra dates. After fans trying to get in on the presale complained of high ticket prices, the two rappers announced 12 new shows on the tour to alleviate the pressure as the general sale opens up.

Dates in Dallas, DC, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Montreal, Philly, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver were doubled, while Brooklyn, Manhattan, and LA all received third shows. Meanwhile, the dates for Drake’s hometown, Toronto, will be announced in the future.

Kanye West has avoided battery charges after he threw a woman’s phone in the street for filming him without permission, according to TMZ. The January incident saw police investigating the controversial music star after footage surfaced online of Kanye accosting the woman in her car. After an argument, Kanye was seen grabbing her phone from her hand and throwing it.

However, according to TMZ, the woman declined to press charges, and the only damage done was to the phone’s case. The argument started when Kanye became upset that the paparazzi were filming him at his daughter North’s basketball game. “You didn’t have to run up on me like that,” he told her. “If I say stop, stop with your cameras!” A bystander filmed the exchange, as did the woman’s companion, sitting in the passenger seat.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office issued a press release that confirmed that Kanye wouldn’t face any charges, and that only around $30 of damage was done. So, aside from the photographer needing a new phone case, there was no harm, no foul.

Kanye’s issues with the paparazzi are well-documented, but he’s apparently been trying to stay out of the spotlight recently after stirring up a ton of controversy over the past year from making antisemitic comments.

Among the various hip-hop artists who sampled the work of the late, great Bobby Caldwell, perhaps none owes a greater debt to the R&B legend than Common. It was Common’s 2000 single “The Light” that gave him his first-ever appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 after eight years and three albums, and that song was made memorable by producer J Dilla’s sample of Caldwell’s 1980 song “Open Your Eyes.”

On Wednesday, Common acknowledged this debt of gratitude, sharing a clip of “Open Your Eyes” on Instagram and writing, “I can’t thank you enough! May God bless the soul of Bobby Caldwell!”

Meanwhile, another of the creative team behind the album from which “The Light” was taken, Like Water For Chocolate, also shared his thoughts about the sample. Questlove, who along with Dilla, D’Angelo, and James Poyser formed The Soulquarians production collective, shared in his own post that he was skeptical of “The Light,” but that Common forged ahead with it, turning out to be right in the end.

“I’ve told the story many a time that I told @Common that maybe we should lose the beat to ‘The Light’ cause it wasn’t ‘Dilla enough,’” he wrote. “But Rash saw something in it man——he was like ‘naw man imma write to this’ (later found he wrote it already).” Still, the greatest co-sign of the single came from Caldwell himself, according to Questlove. “I got word Brother Bobby loved it like in 2001 & so many ‘we’ll be in town let’s meet’ or later on w Fallon ‘let’s have you sit in!’ opportunities missed… Man such a missed opportunity to meet a legend. Thank you for your voice and gift.”

Other artists with notable Bobby Caldwell samples include Tupac, who sampled Caldwell’s signature hit “What You Won’t Do For Love” on his own posthumous single “Do For Love” (recorded originally in 1994), and The Notorious B.I.G., who borrowed from “My Flame” on his 1997 hit “Sky’s The Limit.” More recently, Lil Nas X’s “Carry On” sampled Caldwell’s 1982 song of the same name prior to his “Old Town Road” fame, but rights owners The Music Force sued him over the uncleared sample, hoping to catch on to some of his post “Old Town Road” profits. Even so, Nas couldn’t help but express his own enjoyment of Bobby Caldwell last November.

This week, a video of Young MA at the barbershop generated widespread concern for her health. The 23-second video (as shared by TMZ) featured the rapper seemingly slurring her speech, while her eyes appeared yellowed.

Young MA addressed the speculation over her health in a statement on Wednesday, March 15. She exclusively provided her statement to TMZ before posting it directly to her fans on Instagram:

“As many of my supporters know I’ve been dealing with various personal health issues the last few years. I recently was hospitalized and was successfully treated for several conditions. I’m doing better now, will take some time but I’m on the road to recovery and look forward to the future. I’m in good spirits and everything will be explained in the MUSIC! Plus [a] documentary.. Love y’all MAB! Don’t worry I’m good! Bless up [prayer-hands emoji].”

The statement is currently the only post on Young MA’s Instagram feed.

TMZ noted that Young MA “wouldn’t disclose specifics on exactly what she’s been battling,” and it makes all the sense in the world that she’d prefer to take her time and process it all through music.

Quality Control was sold to HYBE America. Variety reported the deal in early February, relaying its value to be “$320 million in stock and cash” and identifying Scooter Braun as the driving force behind the merger.

Braun lauded Quality Control co-founders Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas in a statement provided to Variety.

“I am so proud and honored to have Coach and P join Bang and me as our partners. QC is one of the most significant independent labels in the world, working with incredible artists who are, and remain to be, the voices of culture,” Braun said. “I’ll never forget riding around Atlanta over 20 years ago with Coach discussing our dreams and ambitions and how we said, ‘If they let us in the game, we are never going to give it back.’ Now, all these years later, we are joining forces to make these dreams a reality.”

While $320 million is a significant indication of how influential Quality Control has become, its true value can’t be quantified.

George State Representative Park Cannon hosted a ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol Building yesterday, March 15, to formally recognize QC, Coach K, and P as “the modern-day blueprint for success in the industry.” Cannon further cemented their legacy by making March 15 “QC Day” in Atlanta.

Tour ticket prices have become one of the hottest discussions online in the past month, as Ticketmaster responded to accusations of unfair business practices by rolling out new policies and highly anticipated tours like Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour have put those policies to the test.

A new hot commodity tour was announced yesterday, and it looks like fans will continue to be unhappy about pricing. Drake and 21 Savage, who teamed up on last year’s album, Her Loss, announced the North American dates of their It’s All A Blur Tour kicking off in June. However, upon seeing the prices — which some fans are reporting to be as high as $1,000 — fans are balancing their “wants and needs” to decide if this particular “rich flex” is worth the cost.

Of course, most of those tweeting seem to be reporting much more reasonable prices — around $400 or so — but that’s still a stretch if you consider the 20-something target demo and… well, everything going on in the world right now.

Of course, Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing system changes the prices of tickets based on demand, so it makes sense that one of the biggest superstars on the planet — who hasn’t toured since 2018, by the way — would be one of the most demanded tickets on the market. When the general sale opens up, things could get better, since there will be more tickets available — or they could get a lot worse since everyone who missed out on the presale will be even more determined to get their hands on them.
