Lizzo Explained How She’s Not Trying To ‘Escape Fatness’ By Working Out: ‘I Don’t Ever Want To Be Thin’

Lizzo is one of the brightest stars in music, but that doesn’t prevent her from regularly dealing with conversations about her body, like when somebody shared a naked photo last month in an attempt to body-shame her. Now, she has taken a couple minutes to speak out about her fitness habits and goals.

In a TikTok post stitching a video from another user, Lizzo said, “Heavy on the not trying to escape fatness. Heavy… f*cking… on it. I just wanted to stitch this to show support to you because this creator, specifically, said, ‘I’m looking for people that I can resonate with.’ Very, very same.”

After explaining that he has “a very high-performance job” that requires “a lot of physical endurance,” she continued, “As I got more professional in my career, I started to take the physical part more seriously. I’ve always loved moving my body, I’ve always loved working out. […] I think a lot of people see a fat person that way and immediately just assume everything they are doing is trying to be thin. I’m not trying to be thin, I don’t ever want to be thin.”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Rick Ross Declared He’s Running For Mayor Of A Georgia City, Shortly After Being Denied A Permit To Host A Car Show

Rick Ross wears many hats. Rapper, actor, and entrepreneur, the Miami native has done it all. But yesterday (May 16), Ross shared that he may be adding another title to his already stacked résumé.

After the city of Fayetteville, Georgia denied Ross permits to host a car show in the city, Ross took to his Instagram Story to share that he still has love for the city. In fact, he even suggested that he may run for mayor of Fayetteville next year.

“I love Fayetteville so much. Next year I’m running for mayor,” said Ross. “That’s right. The boss Rick Ross running for mayor of Fayetteville. I wanna know how many votes did it actually take to vote in the mayor of Fayetteville. I need to know that ‘cause we gon’ become that. We gon’ make that happen, and we gonna have a good time. We gon’ give some people opportunities, we gon’ give some people raises and, of course, we gon’ have to clean some people out.”

Fyre Fest Scammer Billy McFarland Is Now Setting His Sights On A Self-Deprecating Broadway Show

Billy McFarland, who found himself fresh out of prison last year following his disastrous Fyre Festival scam, has teased that he has a bunch of new projects in the works.

Over the past few months, he’s promoted everything from a scavenger hunt for a brand new music festival to doing a 2.0 iteration of the one that went horribly wrong. He’s even thrown out wanting to box Ja Rule for money.

Now, McFarland’s next potential venture is a completely new frontier and possibly, the most far-fetched one so far: Broadway.

That’s right. He’s planning to take over Times Square with a potential musical centered around Fyre Fest’s story, according to a new TikTok appearance. He broke the news through his own video and another interview.

“Instead of like traditional Broadway actors, it’s going to be current music artists, combined with the Broadway format of the play — making fun of me, but also I think sharing some of the good sides as well,” McFarland said.

He also revealed that financial supporters are helping him pay off the first Fyre Fest — and that some unnamed musicians are still interested in coming back to play on a different island. (The 2.0 version will not be held in the Bahamas.)

”The reaction for getting artists has been so extreme,” McFarland added. “Really, like half of them are like, f*ck off, how dare you can call us. And they’re half — like, literally after I tweeted that Fyre Fest 2.0 is happening, they’ve been texting, emailing, saying, ‘Hey, like what can we do to come.’”

Because of this, it also could lead to some interesting musical numbers like “How Can You Fix The Water Problem?” and “Hadid-n’t Go So Well.” Maybe even some appearances from the musicians who were also on the original lineup could happen as well.

For now, check out the clip above.

Slowthai Has Been Dropped From The Glastonbury, Reading, And Leeds Festivals After He Was Charged With Rape

After being charged with two counts of rape on Tuesday (May 16), English rapper Slowthai has been removed from the lineups of several festivals for which he was booked this year. Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds both took the rapper’s name off their lineups, according to Rolling Stone, although neither has yet made an official announcement or statement. Slowthai, whose 2019 debut album Nothing Great About Britain was nominated for a Mercury Prize, denied the charges in a statement on Twitter. He’s due to appear at Oxford Crown Court in June.

“I categorically deny the charges,” he wrote on Twitter. “I am innocent and I am confident my name will be cleared. Until then I will apply my energy to ensure this is concluded swiftly and justly. I ask that my supporters don’t comment about this situation and respect the process and privacy of my family during this time.”

Despite losing his spots at Glastonbury — set for June 21-25 — and Reading & Leeds — August 25-27 — Rolling Stone notes that Slowthai still appears to be booked for a performance at OVO Arena Wembley alongside Blur and Self Esteem.

In March, Slowthai released his third album, UGLY (U Gotta Love Yourself), with the song “Selfish” via Method Records.

Vic Mensa Delivered A Rap About Ja Morant And Guns Before Getting Serious About The NBA Star’s Situation

Vic Mensa was recently spotted in New York City, according to TMZ. As the outlet caught up with him, Mensa delivered a freestyle alluding to star Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant.

“My mama keep telling me to stop, I can’t / the second time they caught me with that gun: damn, I feel like Ja Morant,” he rapped.

The lines refer to Morant brandishing a gun on social media two times, resulting in a suspension. While Mensa used the situation as inspiration for some bars, he then offered benedictions for Morant and noted that he hopes Morant can grow from the situation.

“I think God blessed Ja Morant, man,” said Mensa. “I pray that that brother gets it together and he figures it out because he’s too brilliant and so talented. He’s got a gift, he’s got a real gift. So, I don’t want to see him have to go down that path because he’s so good.”

Morant has faced much scrutiny for showing off his guns on social media. Chandler Parsons, who played for the Grizzlies from 2016 to 2019, suggested that Morant endure a year-long suspension. Mensa, however, continues to show support for Morant.

“I think God blessed him,” said Mensa. “I’m not gonna say anything to disparage him. There’s enough people doing that.”

Sheff G And Sleepy Hallow And 30 Other Alleged Gang Members Were Indicted On Conspiracy Charges

Brooklyn drill rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow are among 32 people facing 140 charges in a New York criminal conspiracy indictment, according to the New York Times. Sheff G, whose real name is Michael Williams, is accused of bankrolling two NY street gangs, the 8 Trey Crips and 9 Ways, which are linked to 12 shootings and a murder.

Prosecutors say after one such violent incident, Williams treated the shooters to a lavish dinner at a Manhattan steakhouse in 2020 which was also attended by Sheff’s frequent collaborator Sleepy Hallow, real name Tegan Chambers. Hallow had just completed an eight-month sentence in prison for weapons possession. Although authorities say Williams used the profits of his rap career to fund his gang activity, Brooklyn district attorney Eric Gonzalez maintains that no lyrics were used in the indictment.

During a press conference covered by Rolling Stone Gonzalez said, “This is not an indictment of rap music. In fact, this investigation did not rely on a single lyric to prove any of the alleged crimes. But it is an indictment of how when someone does well for themselves and could do real good in our community, they use their fame and money to further gang violence.”

The use of rap lyrics in racketeering/conspiracy indictments such as this one has been a hot topic in the past year after Atlanta authorities indicted Young Thug and several members of his YSL label including Gunna using samples of their raps as evidence. The practice has been called racist by critics and several jurisdictions are considering legislation to ban the practice.

Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow both rose to stardom as part of the explosion of drill rap’s popularity in 2019 alongside fellow Brooklynite Pop Smoke. After his death, they were among the young artists who picked up the torch for drill in defiance of New York Mayor Eric Adams’ seeming crusade against the street movement.

Good Guy Post Malone Reportedly Helped A Fan Put A Down Payment On A Home

Post Malone helped a fan in a major way. During a recent trip to Scotland earlier this month, the “Chemical” singer met a fan by the name of Gregor Hunter Coleman in Glasgow’s Wunderbar, according to a report from BBC. Coleman was reportedly singing in the pub and was invited to meet Post following his set. The two were said to have immediately hit it off.

“He said, ‘Do you want a drink?,’” Coleman said. “I was like, ‘Listen, I’m saving for a house so I’m not drinking just now.’ Which was daft, my mates were, like, ‘Why did you turn down a drink from Post Malone?’”

Post then reportedly asked Coleman to sing at his after party the following night.

“He started saying, ‘How much will you charge,’” recalled Coleman. “I said ‘Nothing, it’s Post Malone, this is the chance of a lifetime.’”

After further conversation, Post “got talking to [Coleman] and he offered to help [him] out with my house deposit.” Though, the amount Post reportedly contributed hasn’t been disclosed, and Coleman is keeping mum on that.

Meanwhile, Post is gearing up for the release of his fifth studio album, Austin, as well as an upcoming North American tour.

Austin is out 7/28 via Republic. Find more information here.

Slowthai Was Charged With Rape In England

British rapper Slowthai, who has been charged with rape, appeared in court earlier today via video link to answer the charges, according to The Guardian. Slowthai, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, confirmed his name, date of birth, and address in Northampton, while the prosecution lawyer told Oxfordshire magistrates that the charge — stemming from a September 2021 incident in Oxford — was an “indictable-only” offense, recommending the case be heard at crown court.

Few details were given about the alleged incident other than to report that the 28-year-old rapper is accused of oral and vaginal penetration of a woman without consent. Slowthai was bailed out and will appear in court next month.

The rapper is no stranger to controversy. In February 2020, he apologized for some unruly behavior at the NME Awards, where he grabbed the host on stage and started a fight in the audience before being removed by security. Last summer, he apologized again, this time for wearing a shirt bearing what appeared to be a swastika onstage at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival — although the shirt had an overall anti-fascist message, putting the word “Destroy” over the offensive symbol.

Still, this is the most serious offense he’s been charged with since he first burst onto the scene in 2015.

Jay-Z’s Ace Of Spades Champagne Is So Popular, Even New York Police Tried Stealing $2900 Worth Of It From Electric Zoo

Not every brand associated with a rapper is automatically as successful as either party might hope, but one brand that’s been exceeding expectations for a while now is Jay-Z‘s Armand de Brignac champagne — also known as “Ace Of Spades.” The brand has been growing ever since Jay bought it in 2014, and demand continues to be so high that some folks are apparently going to extreme lengths to get their hands on it.

According to Billboard, two NYPD officers have been accused of trying to steal $2900 worth of bottles of Ace from last year’s Electric Zoo festival. Jonathan Gonzalez, 33, and Wojciech Czech, 44, are each charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree for taking two unopened, unattended bottles of champagne from the VIP tent in a backpack, while a third officer, Warren Golden, 31, observed but did not stop them. Golden has been charged with official misconduct, as has Gonzalez.

However, festival attendees noticed the theft and reported the three officers to festival security. After being confronted, the officers returned the stolen goods and went back to work, but by then the security guard had already notified a supervisor, who informed their commander.

In a statement, the NYPD said, “As a result of the continuing joint investigation with the Internal Affairs Bureau and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, two NYPD officers were arrested and subsequently suspended from duty today. The NYPD will continue to pursue the facts in this investigation and initiate further discipline where appropriate.”
