Burger King’s Infuriatingly Catchy ‘Whopper Whopper’ Song Is Now Available On Spotify

Not to sound 10,000 years old, but you don’t hear songs as ringtones out in the wild anymore. People either keep their phone on silent, or vibrate, or stick with the default ringtone. This is a net positive, all things considered, but I sometimes miss the days when “The Final Countdown” or “So Fresh, So Clean” would alert the stranger waiting in line in front of you at the grocery that their doctor is calling with News.

Like everything else from the 2000s, songs as ringtones are due for a comeback — and when that happens, you’ll be haunted by “Whopper Whopper” when you least expect it.

Burger King has released the catchy (maddeningly so) song on Spotify. If you’ve watched any NFL game this season, you already know it. For everyone else, I’m sorry. In my defense: Whopper Whopper Whopper Whopper, you rule! The fast food chain’s Spotify page also includes “Burger Cheese, Burger Cheese,” as well as a six-track EP of jingles like “Chicken Chicken” and “Crispy Fella.” Good luck to your Spotify Wrapped.

Burger King is on the joke. “When I wrote to the fast-food company to request an interview about the origins and evolution of this hit jingle, several days later I finally got a reply,” Catherine Rampell wrote in an op-ed for the Washington Post. “It was a link to yet another reprise: ‘Burger-cheese, burger-cheese, burger-cheeeese…’ (‘I think you just got rick-rolled,’ said the unsympathetic editor who urged me to write this piece.)”

Burger King isn’t expected to have a Super Bowl ad. Or maybe “Whopper Whopper” will strike when we least expect it. Like at the State of the Union.

South Korea’s HYBE Expands Its American Music Empire By Buying Quality Control, Home To Lil Baby And Others

Over the past few years, HYBE Corporation has become one of the biggest forces in music. The South Korean company owns Big Hit Music (home to artists like BTS and TOMORROW x TOGETHER), Big Machine Label Group (Tim McGraw, formerly Taylor Swift), and now, thanks to a new deal, Quality Control.

In a deal announced yesterday (February 8), HYBE subsidiary HYBE America bought QC (whose artists include Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, City Girls, and Migos) in a purchase “valued at $320 million in stock and cash,” as Variety reports.

HYBE America CEO Scooter Braun said of the deal:

“I am so proud and honored to have [Quality Control CEO Pierre ‘P’ Thomas and COO Kevin ‘Coach K’ Lee] join [HYBE chairman Bang Si-Hyuk] and I as our partners. QC is one of the most significant independent labels in the world, working with incredible artists who are, and remain to be, the voices of culture. I’ll never forget riding around Atlanta over 20 years ago with Coach discussing our dreams and ambitions and how we said, ‘If they let us in the game, we are never going to give it back.’ Now, all these years later, we are joining forces to make these dreams a reality.”

He also noted, “It’s important to me and my team that P and Coach continue to have the freedom, and now our global resources, to continue to do what they do best; facilitate and nurture great art and culture.”

Joey Badass Wanted To Be Signed To Lil Wayne’s Young Money Once Upon A Time

Joey Badass has been creating quite the acting resume for himself, his latest role being Unique in STARZ’s television series Power Book III: Raising Kanan, executive-produced by 50 Cent. However, as the show is on currently on hiatus, the Brooklyn native has turned his attention toward re-entering the music sector.

After a five-year hiatus, the emcee releases his latest album, 2000, a representation of a new creative era for him. Well, that’s not the only musical era on his mind lately. While attending the 2023 Recording Academy Honors’ Global Impact Awards presented by the Black Music Collective, the entertainer spoke about one of the evening’s honorees, Lil Wayne’s era of music.

While walking the red carpet, Joey caught up with Baller Alert to discuss the evening, his return to music, and more. But when discussing Lil Wayne, he had a fun fact to share with correspondent Angie B.

“I wanted to be signed to Young Money, fun fact,” confessed Joey, when discussing Wayne’s record label Young Money’s impact on music in the mid-2000s thanks to signees like Nicki Minaj and Drake.

“When I was a kid, word. I had a little bar I was like, Lil Diggy and Twista ain’t got nothing on this. I was with the smoke.”

But when is comes down to Wayne’s Cash Money-era which is when he got his epic start in music, or his Young Money-era, Joey prefers the Young Money era. Watch the full clip above.

Drake’s Comical Message To LeBron James For Breaking The NBA’s Scoring Record Was Met With Jokes From Fans

I said this last night but I think it bears repeating; Drake may very well be the funniest human being alive.

It’s not just that he constantly does hilarious things, consistently leaning into the public perception that he’s a total cornball. It’s that he’s always in on the joke. He knows how things are going to play, he does them anyway, and he laughs at himself as much as we do.

Take last night’s historical Los Angeles Lakers game; Drake was one of several music stars to congratulate LeBron James on breaking the NBA’s all-time scoring record. But instead of merely recording a straightforward message to the camera like Rihanna and Snoop Dogg, Drake staged an elaborate skit in front of a green screen.

At first, it appears that the Toronto star is standing in the gym at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. This seems like a completely logical thing for Drake to do — even a likely one — because Drake is the kind of guy who buys Pharrell’s old jewelry for nostalgic value. But then, the background shifts to a staged club VIP section as Drake “admits” he’s recording from a night out. Because Drake is also the guy who loves doing comedic sketches for award shows (it’s a shame he hasn’t hosted SNL again for the past seven years).

Naturally, his goofball moment landed differently for different people, but the reactions on Twitter have been pure gold either way. Check them out below.

Cardi B And Offset Are Reportedly Getting Their Own Couples-Themed McDonald’s Meal

Cardi B and Offset’s lovey-dovey ways can’t be stopped — not even by a (rumored) backstage fight at the Grammys between Offset and his Migos bandmate Quavo. Hope you’re not already tired of them because they’re about to invade your local fast-food joint.

That’s right; the next stars to get their own McDonald’s meal will be Cardi B and Offset. Apparently, that’s what they were filming their Valentine’s Day-themed Super Bowl commercial for last month; photos have surfaced online of what appears to be the promotional poster for the meal, which appears to include a cheeseburger, Quarter Pounder with cheese, barbecue sauce, large fries, an apple pie, a large Hi-C, and a large Coke. So, nothing too wild — remember the Saweetie remixes? — but perfect for sharing if you’re spending your V-Day on a budget.

Cardi and Offset are just the latest music stars to partner with the Golden Arches — a tactic that has been quite lucrative for the fast-food company. Previously, McDonald’s partnered with Korean boy band BTS, Latin music star J Balvin, and Houston rap hero Travis Scott. Each meal has been accompanied by a merch collection co-designed by the musicians in question, ranging from apparel to toys to all kinds of bizarre accessories.

We’ll likely find out more about the upcoming meal during the Super Bowl, when the commercial will air alongside spots featuring Jack Harlow and Missy Elliott, Diddy, and more.

Bad Bunny And Christina Aguilera Are Among The Honorees At The 2023 GLAAD Awards For Their LGBTQ+ Support

Bad Bunny, Christina Aguilera, and actor Jeremy Pope are the celebs being honored at this year’s GLAAD Awards.

Bad Bunny is earning GLAAD’s Vanguard award, intended for those who constantly present LGBTQ+ allyship. Previous Vanguard recipients include Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Cher, and Janet Jackson.

“Bad Bunny uses his role as one of the world’s most popular music artists to boldly shine a light on LGBTQ people and issues, including transgender equality and ending violence against trans women of color,” GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis shared via Variety. “By consistently advocating for our community, elevating our stories and demanding action from anti-LGBTQ leaders, Bad Bunny redefines the positive influence Latin music artists can have within the LGBTQ community, and has set an example for all artists.”

Aguilera is set to receive GLAAD’s Advocate for Change award, as she has raised over $500 million for HIV research through Mac Cosmetics. She has also been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.

Meanwhile, Pope, who starred in FX’s show, Pose, is getting the Stephen F. Kolzak award for being a “LGBTQ media professional who has increased queer visibility and acceptance through their work,” according to the publication.

In addition, there are over 250+ nominees that are up for possible awards in the 33 categories. The 2023 GLAAD Awards will be held on March 30 at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton.

Latto Dubs Herself A ‘Swiftie’ As She Posts A Hilarious Selfie With Taylor Swift At The 2023 Grammys

Latto was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Big Energy (Live)”) at the 2023 Grammys over the weekend. While she didn’t take home a win this year, she clearly still had a blast interacting with other stars and musicians at the event.

One of which was Taylor Swift, who Latto recently uploaded a selfie with to Twitter. It’s also a silly one too, as Latto poses with her tongue out and Swift does a cheek kiss. “Swiftie,” Latto captioned the post with champagne glass and heart emojis.

As anyone who was watching the ceremony knows, the celebs were partying hard in full force during the event. Swift frequently drew attention from the camera as she danced and did a similar pose with Bad Bunny and did some other silly wine-mom-energy moves with Jack Antonoff. Oh yeah, and she sparked the internet after interacting with her ex, Harry Styles.

It’s technically not the first time Latto’s been associated with Swift either. In April of last year, a YouTuber mashed up the “Big Energy” instrumental with Taylor Swift’s “22” acapella. The downside is that it’s not Taylor’s re-recorded version, but it’s still a fun remix worth checking out.

Here’s hoping Latto has a chance of making it onto Reputation or 1989 (Taylor’s Versions) in the future.

Lil Uzi Vert Doesn’t Agree That ‘Just Wanna Rock’ Has Replaced ‘Dreams & Nightmares’ As Philly’s Rap Anthem

Lil Uzi Vert’s new, Jersey club-inspired single “Just Wanna Rock” is taking over the streets. Its popularity has grown so much in such a short time, though, that it’s begun receiving comparisons to another Philadelphia-bred rapper’s classic anthem.

DJ Drama, the Generation Now label head responsible for bringing Uzi’s unique style to the world, told TMZ that “Just Wanna Rock” was the new official rap anthem of Philly, replacing Meek Mill‘s “Dreams And Nightmares Intro,” after Uzi walked out the Eagles ahead of their NFC Championship win over the San Francisco 49ers.

However, Uzi seems not to agree. Uzi addressed Drama’s comments at the Grammys, telling Revolt TV (via The Shade Room), “That song been around for a very long time, and that song is still hitting exactly the same way. I’m just gonna have to see, you know, in a couple of years or a decade or whatever.”

Uzi did have praise for the elder rapper though, saying, “That’s one of my big homies. I just feed off the energy that he gives, to be able to even produce or put out that type of music… He would hope that for me too. Not yet though — it’s too early to tell.”

Meek himself — who got a similar co-sign from the Eagles for their Super Bowl championship in 2018 with “Dreams And Nightmares” — tweeted what appeared to be a response shortly after Drama’s original comments. “Intro been lighting the world for 10 years!” he wrote. “Like shaking rooms for years!”

Janelle Monáe Threatened To Withhold New Music After A Fan Joked She Doesn’t Dress ‘Like The Monopoly Man’ Anymore

Janelle Monáe may have gotten their foot in the door as a musician, but these days, newer fans tend to forget that little fact due to their blossoming acting career. So despite Monáe’s schedule filling up with more on-screen opportunities partly due to the success of Glass Onion, they’ve promised to give day-one fans new music to hold them over.

Last month, the triple threat shared a video of them working on new material in the studio. Then finally, a few weeks ago, Monáe released an extended teaser video for their upcoming single, “Float.” But thanks to a viral tweet, the whole track may never see the light of day.

A user on Twitter garnered a lot of attention by tweeting, “Janelle Monáe finally showing off how fine she is instead of dressing like the monopoly man.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Monáe’s signature monochromatic black-and-white fashions, oftentimes suits, were a way to pay homage to their mother and grandmother every time they took the stage. The singer told the Huffington Post, “It’s a dedication to uniformity, and I’m a minimalist by heart, but a lot of it had to do with me wanting to have a uniform like the working class, like my mom and my grandmother.”

Well, once the tweet crossed the desk of the singer, she came back with a playful response: “35.7k likes?? No new tour. hope it was worth it beloved,” closing with the winky kissy face emoji.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Fans rushed to let the singer know not all of them felt that way and that they shouldn’t suffer without new music because of the original user.

The original users’ mentions were riddled with angry fans, but they stood firm in their comments, saying that although it was a joke, they meant what they wrote and also respect Monáe’s artistry. Monáe jumped back in to say, “Monopoly man?? [crying emoji] You’re pretty and funny. [kissy face emoji].”

It looks like everything worked out, and Monáe will return to music soon.
