All The Best New Music From This Week That You Need To Hear

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Billie Eilish surprisingly dropping off a couple fresh tunes and Megan Thee Stallion teaming with Future. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

For more music recommendations, check out our Listen To This section, as well as our Indie Mixtape and Pop Life newsletters. Also find our Uproxx HQ Spotify playlist, which is updated weekly with the best new music, at the end of this post.

Billie Eilish — “TV”

In recent years, Billie Eilish has tended to stick to traditional release schedules for new music, but she broke the mold for herself recently by debuting “TV” live. Now, that song and another, “The 30th,” are out, arriving with no advance warning. They were released as a double-single dubbed Guitar Songs, and indeed, the tender tunes are built on a six-string foundation.

Megan Thee Stallion and Future — “Pressurelicious”

Meg has had a big 2022 so far with her hit with Dua Lipa, “Sweetest Pie,” and now she’s continuing to bless fans with new material. Last week yielded the Future collaboration “Pressurelicious,” on which Megan, per usual, is far from lacking in confidence.

Doechii and SZA — “Persuasive (Remix)”

Doecchi recently slid through with her delightful dance-ready weed celebration with “Persuasive,” and now SZA has decided she wants in. So, she hopped on a remix, offering a smooth new verse to the laid-back tune.

Rexx Life Raj — “Hands And Knees”

In his review of Raj’s new album The Blue Hour, Uproxx’s Aaron Williams notes of the vulnerability of songs like “Hands And Knees,” “While his mom reiterates her trust in God, on ‘Hands And Knees,’ he admits to feeling like prayer is futile: ‘Talking to God with all this praying / Don’t wanna be strong no more, it’s overrated.’ His frustration is exacerbated by the apparent indifference of those friends and family members who fail to check in to show their support — another relatable trial of life.”

Russ — “Are You Entertained” Feat. Ed Sheeran

Sheeran has a rich history of working with hip-hop artists, most notably on his two Collaborations Project releases. He added another to the list last week when he guested on Russ’ “Are You Entertained,” on which Sheeran, who apparently once dominated a serious freestyle session, delivers a serviceable rapped/sung verse.

Flo Milli — “Big Steppa”

Flo Milli decided to avoid the crowded “New Music Friday” release schedule and unexpectedly drop her debut album, You Still Here, Ho?, a couple days early. Among the highlights is “Big Steppa,” featuring a simple bass-and-percussion instrumental on which Milli asserts herself and her presence in hip-hop.

Petey — “Big Bad!”

Petey had one of 2021’s best LPs with Lean Into Life, and now he’s starting to lean into a new era. He started last week with “Big Bad!,” a new single that earns its titular exclamation mark and was accurately described by Petey’s “friend Neil” as sounding “like if Modest Mouse and Blink-182 made a song.”

Maxo Kream — “The Vision” Feat. Anderson .Paak

.Paak has found major mainstream success with Bruno Mars as Silk Sonic, but he’s continued to work with others since then. Just last week, he assisted Maxo Kream on “The Vision,” a low-tempo head-bobber on which the two reflect on the lifestyles their journeys have afforded them.

Lil Uzi Vert — “Httin My Shoulder”

Lil Uzi Vert has a lot going on right now: Aside from updating their pronouns last week, they also have The Pink Tape on the way and Red & White EP out now. The collection dropped last week and it’s led by “Httin My Shoulder,” a hard-hitting tune on which Uzi cycles between rapid-fire verses and more patient flows.

Rico Nasty — “Blow Me”

After her well-received 2020 debut album Nightmare Vacation, Rico returned last week with the Las Ruinas mixtape. Single “Blow Me” doesn’t have as much punk grit as her previous album did, but the heavy, menacing energy is still there, to which Rico’s relatively airy delivery offers a pleasant balance.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Kendrick Lamar Brings Out Kodak Black To Perform ‘Silent Hill’ At Rolling Loud

When Kendrick Lamar put Kodak Black on his new album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, fans were split about the decision. This is mainly due to the stark disparity between the two rappers’ reputations, which are about as far apart as their respective hometowns are on the US map. While Kendrick is largely perceived as an intellectual fount of wisdom, Kodak’s drawn as much attention for his criminal rap sheet and social miscues as he is for his actual rhymes.

That said, the two men probably share more in common than conflict, and Kendrick likely included Kodak on “Silent Hill” to blur the lines between them and show fans that their perceived differences are mostly a matter of circumstance. Unfortunately for him, that doesn’t mean people were willing just to accept Kodak’s inclusion. This weekend at Rolling Loud in Miami, though, Kendrick doubled down, bringing out the Pompano Beach native to perform their collaboration for his hometown.

Kodak, who was arrested for a potential probation violation last week when police allegedly found unprescribed oxycontin in his car during a traffic stop, performed wearing an ankle monitor. Kendrick was also joined on stage by his younger cousin Baby Keem, who performed their song “Family Ties.”

Run The Jewels Join Rage Against The Machine To Perform Their Zack De La Rocha Collaboration

Things got rowdy at Rage Against The Machine’s concert at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena over the weekend (on Saturday, July 23): A fan ran on stage and while security subdued them, Tom Morello accidentally got tackled. The good news is that Morello was alright and the show went on, but an unfortunate side-effect is that the stage-crashing antics overshadowed a cool moment from earlier in the show.

On Rage’s ongoing tour, Run The Jewels are opening, which provided the perfect opportunity for El-P and Killer Mike to join Zack De La Rocha and company on stage for a performance of “Close Your Eyes (And Count To F*ck),” the 2014 Run The Jewels 2 single that features De La Rocha. Indeed, that’s just what they did in Toronto, marking the first time RATM has performed the song live. De La Rocha has actually joined Run The Jewels to perform the song live on multiple occasions, like at Pitchfork Music Festival in 2015.

RATM’s tour has been eventful, even before this weekend: De La Rocha injured his leg a couple weeks ago and the band has used its time on stage to rage against the Supreme Court and injustices faced by Canadian Indigenous peoples.

Bad Bunny’s ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ Goes No. 1 Again While Doing Something That Hasn’t Been Done Since Adele’s ’25’

There’s little that Bad Bunny has accomplished in 2022. He body-slammed Brock Lesnar at the 2022 WWE Royal Rumble. He landed the role of a wrestling superhero in El Muerto, a new Spider-Man spinoff movie. He turn up in the New York City streets and somewhat had a wedding of his own. He even broke a Spotify record along the way. Altogether, it has made for a pretty impressive year that also featured the release of his fourth album Un Verano Sin Ti, which has absolutely dominated the album charts. For a fourth consecutive and sixth overall week, Un Verano Sin Ti is No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

For the July 30, 2022-dated Billboard 200, Un Verano Sin Ti reclaims its No. 1 crown thanks to 103,000 copies sold in the past week. That number is heavily comprised of streams thanks to 143.15 million on-demand official streams of the album’s tracks. With another week of 100,000 or more album sales (11 in total), Bad Bunny becomes the first to reach that number for this feat since Adele made it to 14 weeks six years ago with 25. Un Verano Sin Ti is also the first album to spend its first 11 weeks within the top two positions of the Billboard 200 since Drake’s Views did so for 17 weeks between May 21 — September 10, 2016.

Additionally, Bad Bunny’s fourth album could surpass the Encanto soundtrack for most weeks at No. 1 in 2022. The Encanto soundtrack spent nine weeks in total atop the Billboard 200 while Un Verano Sin Ti has registered six weeks in total.

Future Brought Out Travis Scott At Rolling Loud After The Festival Said He Was Not Banned From The Miami Show

The first day of Rolling Loud’s 2022 Miami Festival was a bit rocky for a couple of reasons. First, Kanye West, who was supposed to headline the first day but canceled at the last second, still appeared at the show as a guest during Lil Durk’s set. Elsewhere, Kid Cudi made an early exit from his headlining slot after fans refused to stop throwing objects at him. Day two proved to be a bit better, and the highlight of the day came when Future brought out Travis Scott to perform some songs during his headlining slot.

The two kicked things off with a performance of “Hold That Heat,” a record by producer Southside that both Future and Travis guest featured on. Elsewhere, Travis also performed “Goosebumps,” and he seemed extremely happy to be back performing on the big stage during it. Travis even lent some vocals to Future as he performed “March Madness.”

Travis’ surprise Rolling Loud appearance comes after the festival denied that he was banned from the Miami show. Furthermore, a spokesperson for Rolling Loud said that the festival even tried to have Travis headline the show, but it proved to be too difficult to do with too little time. “We reached out to Travis to headline Rolling Loud, but it couldn’t work in such a short time,” the spokesperson said. “This had nothing to do with any restrictions from the hosting venue Hard Rock Stadium.”

Bobby Shmurda has been living life to the fullest for the last year and a half since being released from prison. In an official press release, Shmurda provided his answer with the announcement that his first post-prison EP Bodboy will release on August 5.

Rolling Loud Shared A Statement In Support Of Kid Cudi After He Ended His Headlining Performance Early

Day one of this weekend’s Rolling Loud Festival in Miami was eventful for not the best reasons. Kanye West made a surprise appearance at the showcase despite dropping out of the headlining slot and he was replaced by Kid Cudi. Speaking of Cudi, he closed out day one, but his set ended earlier than expected as he made an early exit due to fans constantly throwing objects at him onstage. “I will f*cking leave,” Cudi warned before leaving. “If I get hit with one more f*cking thing — if I see one more f*cking thing on this f*cking stage, I’m leaving!”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

As we now know, Cudi stayed true to his word and made an early exit when a fan threw a water bottle at him after his aforementioned warning. Following last night’s incident, Rolling Loud took to their Twitter page to issue a statement and a note of support towards Cudi. “Rolling Loud is a family,” the platform wrote. “Our fans, the artists, and everyone involved need to look out for each other. Share the love and be respectful to everyone.” They concluded, “We love you, Cudi. Please take care of each other and let’s have an amazing day 2!”

Rolling Loud Miami’s second day is set to be headlined by Future with additional performances from Lil Uzi Vert, City Girls, Latto, and more.

Brent Faiyaz Share The Plans He Has For His Previously Announced Project, ‘Make It Out Alive’

Earlier this month, Brent Faiyaz released his long-awaited second album Wasteland. While the project was his first official album since 2017’s Sonder Son, it was also Brent’s first body of work since 2020’s F*ck The World. Wasteland arrived with 19 songs and features from Drake, Tyler The Creator, Alicia Keys, Joony, and Tre’ Amani, however, there was a point where many thought the project would be released under a different title: Make It Out Alive. During a recent sit-down with Complex’s Jordan Rose, Brent explained that his second album did not undergo a name change, but rather a separate body of work was created.

“I still have a project I want to put out called Make It Out Alive,” Brent said during the conversation. “That’s still in the works—it’s just not this one, because I love the title Wasteland and I love what it represents.” He continued, “I have an idea in my head of what I want Make It Out Alive to be, but all of the songs that I have been making up until this point didn’t fit that title. I wasn’t in the headspace to put that body of work out.”

For what it’s worth, Make It Out Alive seems like the perfect transition from the events that conclude Wasteland. So, if the project does end up being Brent’s third album, it would be interesting to see where he takes things after the success of Wasteland.

You can read Brent’s full interview with Complex here.

Wasteland is out now via Lost Kids LLC. You can stream it here.

The body of work delivered 18 songs and features from Future, Lil Baby, Hit-Boy, G Herbo, Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Lakeyah, and Big30. A little over seven months from that project’s release, Nardo returns with a deluxe reissue and a brand new video.

Nardo Wick gets back to work with a video for “Demon Mode,” one of twelve new songs that appear on the deluxe of Who Is Nardo Wick?. In the visual, Nardo is surrounded by his crew in a dimly lit room as they show their unity while flaunting their stacks of money and collection of jewelry.

Kid Cudi Made An Early Exit From His Rolling Loud Set After Fans Kept Throwing Objects At Him Onstage

The original 2022 Rolling Loud Miami Festival lineup did not feature Kid Cudi in it. However, after Kanye West made a last-minute exit from the showcase, something he’s already done at another big festival this year, it was Cudi that they asked to replace Kanye. The ask is quite the timely one as Cudi has been active as of late. He just released his The Boy Who Flew To The Moon Vol. 1 greatest hits project and uploaded his beloved A Kid Named Cudi mixtape to streaming services. A Rolling Loud performance was supposed to top it all off, but his set on Friday night did not go as planned.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Throughout his performance, Cudi was hit with a number of objects by hecklers in the crowd — some of who were obvious Kanye West fans seemingly irritated that the rapper was replaced with someone he is at odds with. Finally, after dealing with enough thrown objects, Cudi issued a warning to the audience. “I will f*cking leave,” he said bluntly. “If I get hit with one more f*cking thing — if I see one more f*cking thing on this f*cking stage, I’m leaving!” Shortly after saying that, another fan threw an object onstage, and true to his word, Cudi made an early exit for the night.

Despite originally backing out of the festival, Kanye West made an appearance at Rolling Loud a short time later during Lil Durk’s set.

You can view the incident and watch Cudi’s reaction in the videos above.
